What are the protective gears for ice hockey players?

2024-11-29

Ice hockey protective gear refers to the equipment of ice hockey players and referees. There are helmets, chest protectors (shoulder protectors), elbow protectors, gloves, crotch protectors, trouser crotches, leg guards and goalie helmets.

All players must wear ice hockey helmets, and referees and sideline referees can also wear helmets. In the age group competition approved by the IIHF for 20 years old or under, players must wear full face masks, and their structure should be able to block the passage of ice hockey pucks or ice hockey stick blades.

Rules for wearing ice hockey protective gear

All protective gear (except gloves, helmets and goalie leg guards) must be worn inside sportswear. When all or part of the gloves are removed, or cut to expose the hands, it is considered illegal equipment and will be subject to a minor penalty. All protective gear for goalkeepers is to protect the head or body, and no equipment that can provide illegal assistance to the goalkeeper is allowed.

The groove between the thumb and index finger on the goalkeeper's gloves cannot be larger than the angle formed when the thumb and index finger are fully opened, and there are no extra net pockets or attachments that serve as small net pockets.
